How to Become an IAS Officer After 12th

IAS stands for Indian Administrative services. It is the most respectable and prestigious civil service in India. An IAS officer is known as district collector for the entire district. It is also previously known as ICS (Imperial Civil Service).

Eligibility

For a person to become an IAS officer, the below are the eligibility criteria:

  • Candidate must be a citizen of India, Nepal or a subject of Bhutan.
  • The candidate could be a Tibetan Refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, to be settled permanently in India.
  • Candidate should be a graduate from any recognized college/ university/ institution.
  • Candidate should be minimum 21 years old and maximum 32 years old as on before August 01, 2019 so as to apply for IAS post.

Entrance Exam

In order to apply for IAS, the candidate needs to appear for the IAS exam officially known as CSE (Civil Services Examination). UPSC – Union Public Service Commission is the exam conducting body.

Interview

The exam is divided into 3 phase: Preliminary, Mains and interview. The qualified candidates in mains should appear for the interview round and the final results would be declared after the interview on UPSC’s official website.
