366 universities may conduct exam in September
According to the revised guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission- UGC, 366 universities out of 755 universities across India are planning to conduct the exam in August or September. Despite protests from students and teachers, the UGC is still in favor of conducting the examination. Universities have been allowed to choose the method of their choice for conducting the examination. Universities can conduct their final year examinations online, offline, or in other modes.
Earlier, Human Resource Development Minister (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had emphasized the importance of the exam through a tweet. Pokhriyal had said that in any education model, assessment is the most important. Exam performance gives students confidence and satisfaction. However, he also said that special examinations should be conducted for those students who cannot appear in the examination until September.
The UGC informed that 194 universities had already conducted their final year examinations during 2019-20. At the same time, 27 private universities have just been established, so there are no final year students there. Out of the total 755 universities, 120 are considered as universities, 274 as private, 40 central universities, and 321 state universities.
